Celebrating family farmers, local food and rural life!
The world-famous Strolling of the Heifers Parade on Saturday, June 3 is the centerpiece of Stroll Weekend. Although inspired by Spain’s Running of the Bulls, the Stroll is just the opposite: a parade of friendly, ambling heifer calves, groomed to the nines, colorfully bedecked with hats and flowers, and led by future farmers from area schools and 4H club members.
The Parade travels up Main Street and Putney Road to the Brattleboro Common, and starts at 10 a.m. sharp — but be sure to get there early, bring folding chairs, enjoy the pre-parade entertainment and check out local shops and eateries that open early.
Our Parade theme is: Dance to the MOOOsic ! Many parade units will reflect the theme by adding some mooovement to their presentations. Please join us by showing appreciation for farmers, local food and all things rural with your best dance moooves!
The Parade theme song, as always, is “The Heifers are Coming to Town!”
The heifer contingent — up to 100 in number — leads the parade. The heifers are followed by a variety of other farm animals — horses, mules, oxen, and sometimes goats, pigs, chickens, llamas and alpacas, followed by tractors, clowns, floats and bands.
Stroll with us! To be in the parade please learn more and complete application here. Entry deadline is May 10th.
Come early and enjoy historic downtown Brattleboro! Merchants and eateries open their doors early on Parade day. Vendors and exhibitors on the Common and Retreat grounds are ready for you by 9 a.m.
Enjoy pre-parade entertainment along the parade route starting about 9 a.m. The heifers are first in the order of march — so don’t be late, or you might miss them!
When it’s over, the entire crowd follows the Parade up Main Street to the 11-acre Slow Living Expo for a full day of food, fun, entertainment, exhibits and activities. Join us there, too!
